Chronic pain, either somatic or visceral, affects millions of individuals throughout the world. Management of these patients involves the knowledge of pain pathways through knowledge of analgesic drugs, either isolated or in combination, and experience with nonpharmacological interventions that might help to mitigate the pain. These principles will be applied to specific forms of chronic pain, such as neuropathic pain, articular pain, and visceral pain associated with intestinal inflammatory diseases and interstitial cystitis.
